{"id":213938,"date":"2014-09-06T13:36:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-06T13:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/eastern-region-drinking-spots-ordered-to-close-by-10pm\/"},"modified":"2014-09-06T13:36:00","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T13:36:00","slug":"eastern-region-drinking-spots-ordered-to-close-by-10pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2014\/09\/06\/eastern-region-drinking-spots-ordered-to-close-by-10pm\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern Region drinking spots ordered to close by 10pm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div id=\"newsimage\">&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#13;<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/img.ghanamma.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/3f44240x_mg_h40ofs6eey_3045872514601_5965471955585.jpg\" onclick=\"javascript:window.location='\/GhanaHome\/image_preview.asp?which=1&amp;menu_id=1&amp;id=NTY3ODg2';\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n  &#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"bodytext\">\n<p>The Eastern Regional Security Council says it will clamp down on drinking spots that operate beyond 10pm.<\/p>\n<p>Using the Akuapemhene&#8217;s celebration of Awukudae to announce their resolve, Chairman of the Council and Regional Minister Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere said the security council was not announcing a new directive but enforcing an old bye-law.<\/p>\n<p>The council has already ordered drinking spots and bars to close by 10 PM daily and registered nightclubs can operate until midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Antwi- Boasiako observed that bye-laws have been left unforced leading to nocturnal crime and wanton drunkenness.<\/p>\n<p>But not anymore, he vowed, stating that henceforth \u201cWe will let the law take its course\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most common occasions for the abuse of the bye-laws, he noted, was festivals within the region.<\/p>\n<p>Odwira and Ohum festivals are celebrated by the people of Akropong and Amanokrom between the months of September to January every year.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional minister advised that the firing of muskets during these festivals must only be done by those registered to do so.
