{"id":197428,"date":"2014-06-17T05:36:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-17T05:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/three-drown-at-glefe\/"},"modified":"2014-06-17T05:36:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T05:36:00","slug":"three-drown-at-glefe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2014\/06\/17\/three-drown-at-glefe\/","title":{"rendered":"Three drown at Glefe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div id=\"newsimage\">&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#13;<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/img.modernghana.com\/images\/content3\/240x_mg_xd6fwjivuq_3981246212135_4317038619994.jpg\" onclick=\"javascript:window.location='\/GhanaHome\/image_preview.asp?which=1&amp;menu_id=1&amp;id=NTQ5NDI2';\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n  &#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"bodytext\">\n<p>Two school children and a house help last Sunday drowned in separate incidents at a beach in Glefe, a suburb of Accra.<\/p>\n<p>They include a 17-year old-girl whose name was given only as Abiba, Edem Tuglo, 15, a form two student of the Dansoman No.2 Basic Schools, and a 13-year-old boy also named only as Kobi.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth person, Meriama Faisail, a mother of two, was rescued by a passerby who saw her struggling in the sea waves.<\/p>\n<p>She was rushed to the hospital after her rescue where she was treated and discharged.<\/p>\n<p>The late Abiba&#8217;s last pose at Glefe beach. <br \/>In an interview with Edem&#8217;s mother, Patience Agboli, she said her son sought permission that fateful day to\u00a0play football at the beach .<\/p>\n<p>She said a few hours later she rushed to the beach after she was informed that two boys playing at the beach had drowned.<\/p>\n<p>However, on reaching there she only saw Edem&#8217;s shirt on the beach &#8212; nursing the hope that her son was not among the two boys said to have drowned.<\/p>\n<p>But her hope was short lived as Edem did not return after 6:00pm, the time he usually comes home.<\/p>\n<p>Edem&#8217;s body washed ashore on Monday, along with Kobi&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>An eyewitness account indicated that the two boys rushed into the sea after the ball they were playing was kicked into the sea.<\/p>\n<p>The eyewitness said \u00a0boys rushed to pick the ball and in the proccess got drowned.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Charles Tuglo,(right) and his wife patience(left)<\/p>\n<p>Traumatized Meriama Faisail, who also almost drowned at a different location at the beach\u00a0told Myjoyonline.com Abiba persistently demanded that they go to to the beach together to the point where she had no option but to give in.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0According to her, when they got to the beach, Abiba decided to take a swim while she lay on a mat, but suddenly she had a strong urge to dip her feet in the water.<\/p>\n<p>She said after a few minutes in the sea, she had a blackout until she regained consciousness at the hospital. She is certain she was saved by Divine intervention.<\/p>\n<p>The bodies of all three teenagers have since been deposited at the Korle Bu mortuary for autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>Glefe was recently hit by a devastating floods as result of a spillage by the Weija dam which made residents living along the banks of river Densu homeless.<\/p>\n<p>The Assembly man for the area Emmanuel B.B. Gboyor has expressed his condolence to the bereaved families.<\/p>\n<p>He \u00a0advised parents to take proper care of their children in order to prevent them from going to the beach.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was shocked by the news since its has not occurred before.
