Not even a broken driver could derail Matsuyama’s bid for a first win on the illustrious US tour, with the Japanese 22-year-old making par on the first play-off hole to see off Na in Dublin, Ohio.<\/p>\n

Na is now 0-2 in PGA Tour play-offs, also losing in extra holes to Geoff Ogilvy at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson in 2005.<\/p>\n

The pair finished level on 13-under overall after 72 holes, with Na’s final round of eight-under 64 catapulting him from the fringe of the top 20 to a winning chance.<\/p>\n

But Matsuyama overcame a broken club on the 18th hole, and declined the offer to replace it – opting to use a three-wood on the first play-off hole, and it would prove a masterstroke.<\/p>\n

The Japan native made it consecutive rounds of 69 on the weekend, as he and Na kept Bubba Watson at bay, with the two-time Masters champion shooting an even-par 72.<\/p>\n

Watson was on track for a seventh career PGA Tour title and his third of the year, before faltering on the 14th and 15th holes at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.<\/p>\n

A bogey followed by a double-bogey sapped valuable momentum out of the big-hitting Watson’s game, and he stumbled to a third-place finish.<\/p>\n

Tied for fourth were world number one Adam Scott and American Chris Kirk on 10 under.<\/p>\n

Scott carded his worst round for the week, a one-under 71, but still earned his seventh top-10 finish of the season.<\/p>\n

Steve Stricker and Ben Curtis were tied for sixth on nine under, after the American pair hit respective rounds of four and two under.<\/p>\n

Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen was among a group of five players tied for eighth on eight under, after he and American Bill Haas finished their weeks with four-under 68s.<\/p>\n

Alongside Olesen and Haas were Americans Luke Guthrie and Brendon Todd, and South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel. <\/p>\n
