Australian Scott edged American Jason Dufner in a three-hole play-off to claim the Crowne Plaza Invitational on Sunday, having been as many as six strokes off the pace during the tournament.

The 33-year-old’s win was his 11th on the PGA Tour as he completed a sweep of all four Texas events after success at the Shell Houston Open (2007), HP Byron Nelson Championship (2008) and Valero Texas Open (2010).

Scott’s victory also maintained his status as golf’s world number one, a status which he is determined to hold on to ahead of this week’s Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio.

“It’s satisfying absolutely, but all the things that I did leading up certainly helped put me in the right mindset to play well last week,” said Scott.

“It took a couple of days for it to show up really on the weekend. But that’s when it counts,

“So it was very satisfying to win at that golf course for a lot of reasons and to achieve some little goals other than just winning in general and try win all the events in Texas.

“I think getting to number one was such a journey and so much work went into it, I wasn’t going to settle to just stay there for a week.

“I knew Henrik (Stenson) was up about the top 10 but I didn’t really know what that had me to do. Starting two back I was more thinking about winning the tournament than trying to just get a top 10.”
