All Ghanaian Clash: Ray Narh vrs Frederick Lawson

World title chasing Fredrick Nii Lante Lawson will once again have his championship credentials sternly tested on Wednesday night when he faces senior compatriot, Ray Narh in a Welterweight bout at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, USA.

Undefeated Lawson (22-0, 20 KOs) has been settling into his career in the USA where he arrived at the beginning of this year, marking his debut fight in America with a convincing 5th round stoppage of Ugandan-American, Mohammed Kayongo back in April.

Lawson also previously held both the IBF Continental Africa as well as IBF International Welterweight titles and has been promised a possible world title eliminator within his next two to three fights after signing a new promotional and management contract with California based Kingsports Promotions.

First task for Lawson, famously nicknamed Okumka on the Kingsport contract, he must see off the challenge of 36 old Ray Narh AKA The Emperor (26-5, 21 KOs), a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist and USNBC Light Welterweight champion but who has suffered four losses in his last five fights.

The two Ghanaians will fight on the undercard of the IBF MIddleweight title eliminator between Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and Curtis Stevens to be screened live on ESPN 2.

Another Ghanaian, 34 year old Laatekwei Hammond (21-7, 14 KOs) also fights on the same bill against 28 year old Russian born American, Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a Middleweight contest over 6 rounds.

It will be the second comeback fight in the USA for Hammond who lost a bid for the New England State Middleweight title to Russell Lamour at the Expo Center, Portland, Maine back on June 14.
