Tigo Insurance makes strides as it pays it pays over GHC 3 million to claimants

Tigo Family Care Insurance, a mobile insurance service provided by Tigo Ghana and one of the few mobile insurance policies on the Ghanaian market, has made giant strides since started in 2010. The policy, launched in partnership with Bima, has so far paid over 3000 valid claims with a total value of GHC 3 million, thereby contributing immensely in addressing the social needs of its holders. This means that the set-out goal of the Insurance policy which is to provide insurance cover to the informal sector and low-income earners is right on course.

Some of the components of the policy include the Tigo Family Care which covers the Tigo subscriber and one relative in event of death, as well as the Tigo Hospital Support plan which provides a cash payment for any Tigo customer who is admitted to the hospital for two nights or more.

Rashid Adams, a Tigo Insurance policy holder, is one of the over 3000 who have benefited from the policy. Rashid could not hide his joy when he was recently presented with a cheque by Tigo to settle his claims after losing his wife. In his words “Tigo Insurance is real and it has really been of utmost help to me and my family. I am grateful for the financial support will contribute towards burial arrangements.” He went further to encourage Tigo customers to sign up to the policy.

With Ghanaians culturally indifferent to traditional insurance, and more especially life insurance, it is hoped that mobile insurance will offer them an easier and a more convenient way to insure themselves and their families.
