A 38-year-old businessman, Bright Asante, has been arrested by the police for allegedly conspiring with two other suspects to raid the warehouse of a Chinese company in Accra.

The three were said to have broken into the warehouse of Leneki Company Limited in Accra and made away with 291 boxes of footwear worth GH¢145, 500.

The other two accomplices, Aminu Bukari and Mallam Farid, have already been arrested and are in the custody of the Accra Regional Criminal Investigations Department.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Edward Obeng Boateng of the Ashanti Buffalo Unit, said on September 9, 2014, Bukari and Farid broke into the warehouse of Leneki Co Ltd and made away with the 219 boxes of the assorted footwear.

He added that the following day, Asante sent the shoes to Kumasi and started distributing them at very low prices.

Mr Boateng said, the police got wind of it and, through intelligence, managed to arrest Asante, a resident of Breman in Kumasi.

He said the police retrieved 120 boxes of the footwear from Asante and at the time of going to press, he was still taking the police round to retrieve the rest from people he had sold the shoes to.

Mr Boateng said the suspect would be sent to Accra and processed for court.
