Appiah Denied Togo Cash

Daily Guide Sports has gathered that Coach Kwesi Appiah returned home empty-handed after guiding the Black Stars to victory in Togo in their last African Cup qualifier.

The coach and his technical team managed to win on foreign land against their Togolese counterparts, yet they did not receive any financial reward, like had been the practice.

According to a source, paymasters of the team had doubted that the coach could snatch victory in Lome, so they did not make any financial provision for the technical team.

The team’s inability to win before home fans five days earlier in Kumasi after their Brazil fiasco formed the basis for the decision of his employers.

Before the Togo clash, pundits considered victory in ‘Togoland’ as a remote possibility, taking into account the home side’s quest to win at all cost, having lost their first Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea.

Coach Appiah however proved his critics wrong by fighting from a goal down to beat the Hawks of Togo 3-2 before a fanatic crowd in Lome.

The win notwithstanding, what many thought to be a rumour before the game became a reality when his employers terminated his two-year contract, 24 hours after the Togo win.
