Black Stars player, Andre Morgan Ayew has expressed his astonishment at the axing of former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah.
The Ghana football Association on Friday 12th September confirmed the dismissal of the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender after 2 years at the helm of the senior national team.
And Andre Ayew was surprised to hear the man the team has built a ‘special bond’ with, was axed.
“We had formed a special bond with the manager and didn’t expect this at this time. I honestly don’t think any one of us really expected this to come at this time,” africasoccernet.com reports
It was alleged that the Olympique de Marseille winger was furious when he was substituted in Ghana’s 3:2 victory over Togo in Lome and refused to exchange handshake with the former coach, but Ayew denied vehemently
“Who says I didn’t shake hands with Kwesi Appiah after the last game. That is never true. And who says some of us, senior players walked up to him to question his credibility after the Togo game.
“I don’t remember seeing any of my team mates doing that so I find it strange that the media will report on something that actually did not happen in Lome,’’ he fumed.
The former U-20 world cup winner thanked Kwasi Appiah for the work he did and wishes him well.
“But anyway, there is nothing we can do, but only say our hearts are with him and we appreciate him for what he gave to us,’’ he said.
