How Many Times Should Kwesi Appiah “Suffer Humiliation” At The Hands Of The FA? – Egbert Faibille

A Legal Practitioner, Egbert Faibille is worried about how Ghana’s coach and ex-Black Stars’ captain Kwesi Appiah is being treated by the managers of football in the country.

According to him, circumstances under which Kwesi Appiah was stripped off his post as Black Stars captain in 1992 and coach of the team recently is worrying.

Stripped Off Black Stars Captaincy

He recalled how Kwesi Appiah lost the Black Stars captaincy to Abedi Ayew Pele at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal because handlers of the team said he was not bilingual.

The former Black Stars captain led the team, then handled Burkhard Ziese, to qualify for the finals but was stripped of the leadership role because he could not speak French.

Abedi Pele, then African footballer of the Year and a key player of Olympique Marseille set-up, replaced him [Appiah] at the finals in Senegal.

It was speculated that the decision to strip off the captaincy from Kwesi Appiah was taken by the Ghana FA and led to disquiet in camp.

Fired As Black Stars Coach

Kwesi Appiah who led Ghana’s shambolic World Cup in Brazil 2014 was appointed two years ago and relieved off his post on Thursday, 24 hours after leading the Black Stars to beat Togo 3-2 in a 2015 African Nations Cup qualifier.

The Executive Committee of the GFA took the decision to sack the coach despite picking up four points from the available six in the qualifiers.

After Ghana’s disastrous World Cup, the proposal was to get a technical adviser for Kwesi Appiah, who then has earlier chosen experienced local coach Ben Koufie.

But his choice was snubbed by the three-man committee setup to do the job; rather they went about looking for another choice by appointing Ghana’s former Serbian coach, Milovan Rajevac as technical adviser to Kwesi Appiah.

Milovan who arrived in the country hours ago is said to have declined the technical advisory appointment and opted to manage the Black Stars instead.

This led to the dismissal of Black Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah although the FA has agreed to compensate him.

Discussing the issue on flagship morning show the legal practitioner and a member of the opposition NPP wonders why Kwesi Appiah always suffers mortification with the team he has toiled for some years back.

“Considering the past experience where he was bitterly stripped off the Black Star captain-ship, look at the manner in which you are sacking him again. How many times should Kwesi Appiah suffer humiliation at the hands of the football managers of Ghana?” he questioned
