National Democratic Congress stalwart and former constituency chairman for Krowor, Stephen Akwetey has pledged One million Ghana cedis as start-up to foot the educational dreams of the less privileged tertiary students in the Greater Accra Region.
As an aspirant of Greater Accra Regional NDC chairmanship, Mr. Akwetey says it is about time the plight of electorate are considered highly during and after political elections.
He made these submissions during his campaign launch in Accra for the position of Greater Accra Regional NDC chairmanship.
Speaking at the launch, the former Accra Hearts of Oak chairman enumerated that party supporters upon which the party wins elections and given authority to rule or oversee either the nation or a proportionate few must be accorded the reward they deserves.
According to Mr. Akwetey, he wish to be the leader to maintain the loyalty of the electorate and party supporters and membership of the NDC, to ensure promises made to the electorate are fulfilled where as extra strategic social support programs are be roped in to cater for the most primary social needs of the people in question.
He used the occasion to caution supporters not to allow themselves to be bought by candidates who merely distributes items to spite them, as he is already aware some of his competitors have started doing exactly so to woo them to vote in their favor. He advised supporters to judge candidates based on realistic offer that has a long lasting effect on their livelihood and economic impact.
Mr. Akwetey envisaged the need to make healthcare increasingly affordable by all in the Greater Accra Region. According to him a health fund will be created should he be voted chairman to enable more persons the Greater Accra Region to subscribe onto the National Health Insurance Scheme free medical assistance. H e said a separate fund shall be released to cater for persons who were not captured yet on the scheme to buy time for them to subscribe later.
He also plan to establish support programs to commercially empower the citizenry under his watch when voted to office as Greater Accra Regional NDC chairman in order to reduce the level of unemployment in the region, hence reducing crime other preventable social challenges.
