A member of the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffour has disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party will implement the report released by the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee.

He  said the Committee did no wrong in investigating the dismissal of two key party officers – Opare Hammond (former Director of Finance and Administration) and Perry Okudzeto (former acting Director of Communication).

Prof. Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the Committee  published a report  on Wednesday calling for their reinstatement after General Secretary, Kwamena Agyepong asked party members to ‘ disregard the report  and treat it with the contempt it deserves.’

However, speaking to Citi News, Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffour insisted that the National Council would implement the report.

He said: ‘which ever way you look at it, whether they have to do it now, later or whatever the action Oquaye a respectable member of the party and legal constitutional director of the party is saying is perfectly correct and it’s in order. Kwamena Agyepong cannot say that simply and get away with it.’

Dr. Tuffour also insisted that its only the National Executive Committee (NEC) that could terminate the appointment of such high party officials.

‘The essence of the report will not change. We all know that it has to be done properly. The NEC appointed them, [so] it’s the NEC that can sack them. Kwamena Agyepong and Afoko are not NEC, they are part of it. They are part of the decision making body and therefore, they don’t have the right of their own to take that kind of decision.’

Meanwhile, Opare Hammond is  threatening to drag the NPP to court .

He said: ‘I am only trying to use the channel that is available to me in the party’s constitution. I don’t want to go beyond that and then very soon I will drag the party and the people involved to court, please.’

On Wednesday, a leading member of the of the party Ayikoi Otoo,  rebuked Prof. Mike Oquaye for publishing the report .

‘This is a non-solicited opinion. Clearly, somebody is trying to serve the interest of a particular faction by trying to direct others towards the way things ought to be done even when there are no issues to be considered,’ he alleged. =
