‘GYEEDA Restructuring Suffers Inexplicable Inertia’

Atik Mohammed, chief spokesperson for Mass Action Committee (MAC), a pressure group, says the restructuring of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), as ordered by President John Dramani Mahama a couple of months ago, is suffering inexplicable inertia.

He disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Accra.

It would be recalled that President Mahama, in April this year, called for the restructure of GYEEDA following the misappropriation of millions of Ghana cedis by corrupt officials.

Mr. Mohammed, however, said the National Coordinator of GYEEDA, Kobby Acheampong had adopted delay tactics in the restructure of the youth agency after the mismanagement of corrupt officials.

‘It would be recalled that not long ago, MAC raised an array of issues affecting GYEEDA and its direction. To this end, President John Mahama intervened and demanded of the National Coordinator of GYEEDA to undertake certain important tasks as a matter of urgency. At the heart of the president’s instruction was the need to commence GYEEDA’s restructuring process in earnest and with every dedication the agency headed by Mr. Kobbey Acheampong could command,’ he said.

He continued: ‘Sadly, these instructions as issued by His Excellency are yet to receive full compliance. The restructuring process, the very essence of Mr. Acheampong’s appointment, is plagued with some inexplicable inertia.’

To this end, Mohammed, on behalf of MAC, appealed to President Mahama to impress upon the National Coordinator of GYEEDA to speed up the agency’s restructuring processes.

Mr. Mohammed also appealed to President Mahama to ensure that value for money audit was conducted on the various modules at the agency within the shortest possible time.

He further called on the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, under whom GYEEDA has been placed, to assist President Mahama to carry out the reforms without any undue delay.

Allegation
Mr. Mohammed alleged that Mr. Acheampong was focusing on how to secure a luxurious lifestyle for his family.

He claimed that ‘the only objective Mr. Acheampong has pursued with relentless alacrity since assuming office is the procurement of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser at the taxpayer’s expense.’
