The Ashanti Regional Police Command Monday morning embarked on an operation to arrest road users who flout road safety regulations.
The police made a number of arrests including a medical doctor who recorded an alcohol level of 0.18 above the normal level of 0.08
Ultimate Radio’s reporter Eno Sarfo reported that the unsuspecting medical doctor was driving in his plush RAV 4 Toyota when he was stopped and found out.
The exercise which has been necessitated by recent fatal road accidents on the Accra Kumasi road was to check drivers flouting road regulations.
All regional commanders and in the service also held similar exercises across the country to show exemplary leadership and to boost the morale of their personnel in carrying out their traffic safety duties effectively.
The operation was led by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye and the MTTD Commander, ASP Peter Gyimah on the Apradu Junction of the Kumasi Accra highway.
Eno sarfo also reported that the regional police Commander had first hand witness of a trotro driver who attempted bribing a police officer with a two Ghana cedi note.
In an exclusive interview with ultimate radio, the firebrand police commander urged the public to eschew the practice of bribing their way out of traffic offenses.
He said his command was not only concerned with going after armed robbers but also to reduce indiscipline and carnage on the roads.
He indicated that the focus of their operation was to ensure that drivers drove with proper road worthy certificates, had their driver’s licenses and also observed traffic regulations.
The exercise according to the commander was going to be replicated on other major roads in the region including the Kumasi – Techiman Road and the Kumasi – Sunyani Road.
