TWO PEOPLE, Kwasi David and Kwabena Acheampong, aka IK, have been apprehended by the police for allegedly manufacturing guns.

They are said to be supplying guns to hardened criminals who use them to rob innocent people of their valuables.

The police retrieved items that the suspects use in manufacturing the offensive weapons during the arrest.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, made this disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday.

He said the items retrieved from the suspects were three drilling machines, two hand drilling machines, 10 metal files and three saw blades.

Seven locally made single barrel guns, two metal patter of single barrel butt and iron metals used for manufacturing of the pistols, were also seized.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the two suspects had been charged with possessing firearms without authority.

Explaining what led to the arrest, he said on August 21, this year, the police highway patrol team went on their routine checks on the Kumasi/Techiman road.

He said the team intercepted a Ssanyong mini bus registered AW 1342-12, at Abofuor and conducted a search on it.

The policemen found a black bag containing five locally made pistols during the search.

Kwasi David, who was on board the bus, was found to be the owner of the bag.

Upon interrogation, David mentioned Kwabena Acheampong of Buoho-Denase as the one who supplied the guns to him.

On August 24, 2014, David led the police to Buoho-Denase where Kwabena Acheampong was also arrested.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the suspects would be arraigned on a charge of possessing firearms without authority.
