Desist From Multiple Installation Of Chiefs


The Head of Gbawe Kwatei Family, Nii Adam Kwatei Quartey has advice chiefs and elders of the Ga State to desist from installing more than one chief in one community, especially in the Ga rural areas.

Nii Adam Kwatei Quartey gave the advice during at grand durbar of chiefs and people of Gbawe to mark the annual Homowo festival.

According to him where there are more than one chief in a community the festival most often results in chaos with the factions using armed guards to harass their own people.

This he described as unfortunate because according to him Homowo celebration stands for peace and unity and not the other way round.

‘’ We the people of Gbawe have stopped the shooting of guns during any of our festivities and I want to reemphasize this to the youth. Anybody caught shooting gun at any function in Gbawe will be drastically dealt with’’ he noted.

Addressing the gathering on the State of affairs of Gbawe at the grand durbar, the secretary of Gbawe Kwatei Family Solomon Nii Afutu Quartey revealed that the Gbawe Kwatei Customary Land Secretariat was established in the year 2003 and became operational in 2004 under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and Ghana Land Administration Project Phase one.

The project he said has so far been successful and have reduced land litigation cases to it bearest minimum in the Gbawe Kwatei Family Customary Land Jurisdiction.

He added that the Land Record Management of the secretariat has improved from 1,532, to 18,131 records which have increased the revenue base of the secretariat.

He said the secretariat has started other services to the general public and is already in operation. The services include Land Management Advisory Services, Property Management Services and Land Registration Preparation Services.

He said the family has contribute to quality and affordable education for the people living within Gbawe community and its environs and have provided sponsorship to needy but brilliant children from basic to senior high levels.

Nii Afutu Quartey further revealed that a Heritage Fund has been created to support education and the impact would include academic sponsorship, distribution of Ten Thousand free Exercise Books and distribution of 100 Computers with Accessories to Private and Public Schools in Gbawe and its surrounding communities.

He added that the Family has also proposed to establish Gbawe Kwatei College to train the youth on customs and professional traditional disciplines and would establish Gbawe vocational technical training centre to equip the youth in skills training and vocational education to reduce incessant rate of unemployment among the youth.

Sanitation
He said there would be periodic clean up exercises throughout the Gbawe Township and its surrounding communities; this he said would help reduce the high prevalence rate of cholera, diarrhea, malaria and other environmental related diseases.

Health
He said the Family has engaged some Private Health Centers within Gbawe for a periodic health sensitization talk and Screening Exercises and has reserved land for the construction of Gbawe polyclinic to augment the existing health facilities within the community.
