Adhere Strictly To The Senchi Road Map—Veep


The Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur has called on members of the Implementation Advisory Group on the Senchi Consensus to adhere strictly to the Senchi road map.

He said the purpose of the Senchi consensus was with the aim of promoting dialogue towards achieving consensus on polices , strategies and measures that would accelerate the transition to a higher sustainable path of development and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians .

Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, made the statement on the 2nd of September 2014 when he inaugurated the Implementation Advisory group at the office of the National Development Planning Commission in Cantonments in Accra.

Vice President Amissah Arthur said recently President John Dramani Mahama held a Presidential Strategic Advisory Committee meeting to kick-start the implementation of measures to speed up Ghana’s economic recovery where analyses policies and strategies adopted at the Senchi Economic Forum were looked at and also map out strategies to help re-shape the economy, so that our currency would regain stability by ensuring that the rapid depreciation of Ghana’s Cedi currency was checked.

Inaugurating the group,Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur , said the Advisory group must first of all try as much as possible to tackle the issues that the people of Ghana are yearning for.

He further urged the group to look at restoring currency policy credibility, the provision of stability results and ensuring fiscal stability to bridge the deficit gap which is paramount,so that the implementation of the economic forum would be for the betterment of all Ghanaians.

He s said the decision to form the Implementation advisory committee came out of the forum as a post implementation committee with the responsibility of guiding the implementation of the recommendations of the forum.

Vice President Amissah said Some of the objectives is to establish coordinated implementation and monitoring arrangement for effective implementation of the Senchi recommendations and systematic actions.

The Group is to coordinate the translation of the Senchi recommendation in specific facilitate the removal of institutional and operational bottlenecks that may inhibit the implementation of the recommendation and of the Senchi Accord.

The work of the Implementation advisory group is to oversee the monitoring and reporting on the implementation of agreed interventions.Indicators and their corresponding targets and also have a specific task to ensure the achievement of the above objectives, the Group shall undertake the following tasks.

They are to organise a meeting with relevant MDAs to agree on interventions to be implemented within specified time frames, develop in collaboration with the relevant MDAs, a result matrix based on the recommendation of the Forum, organize periodic meetings with the relevant MDAs to obtain feedback on progress of implementation of recommendation.

The group is to also prepare quarterly and annual reports on the progress of implementation and meet periodically with the designated Oversight Group at the Office of the President to review monitoring reports and resolve implementation challenges that may arise

The Implementation Advisory Group is a 20 member group and would be hosted by the NDPC with the full compliment of secretariat services and will coordinate and manage the affairs of the IAG, in collaboration with the Office of the President,so that reports prepared would be forwarded to the office of the Vice President for review and adoption for other policy management process.

The Office is being established in accordance with the National Planning Commission Act 1994, Act 479,which provides for Cross-Sectorial Planning Groups (CSPG)

The membership is made up of senior management staff (preferably a Director or higher) from the following institutions,with the capacity to make policy decisions on behalf of the respective institution.

The members of the 20 member group are from the National Development Planning Commission of the Office of the president Ministry of Finance, Ghana Revenue Authority, Controller and Accountant-General’s Department,Ministry of Trade and Industry, Bank of Ghana, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of local Government and Rural Development. Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.,African Centre for Economic Transformation,Trades Union Congress,Private Enterprise Federation, Ghana Employers Association, Association of Ghana Industries,Institute of Economic Affairs,Centre for Policy Analysis Institute for Democratic Governance ,Integrated Social Development Centre.
