Cholera outbreak reaches alarming heights; over 10,000 cases recorded

Efforts to control the cholera outbreak seem to be fading out as the disease keep spreading to other parts of the country.

There are increasing cases in the Brong Ahafo and Central regions.

Joy FM’s correspondent in the Central region, Richard Kojo Nyarko reported that 12 people have died and 500 cases reported in the latest outbreak in the region.

He added that, hospitals and clinics in the regional capital, Cape Coast, have resorted to treating patients under tents.

Health officials have predicted that the outbreak could worsen if the necessary steps are not taken.

The death toll as compiled by Joy FM has risen to almost 70 with over 10,000 cases recorded across the country since the outbreak in August, this year.

Accra Metro Health Director, Dr. Simson Boateng told Joy News the latest figures for Accra is around 4,680 cases with 47 reported deaths.

He said health officials are working round the clock to find the real cause of the outbreak.
