Make French Language part of schools curricula – Journalist

Tamale, Aug. 16, GNA – Mr Caesar Abagali, Northern Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency has appealed to the Ministry of Education to make the teaching and learning of the French Language part of the curricula for basic and second-cycle institutions in the country.

He said this would enable pupils and students to understand the Language and use it in their daily activities to promote development and cooperation.

Mr Abagali, who is also the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists’ Association, made the appeal when he chaired the annual Speech and Prize Giving/Graduation Ceremony of the Dolores Basic School in Tamale on Saturday.

Dolores Basic School, established 11 years ago at Kukuo, a suburb of Tamale, trains pupils from kindergarten to primary six and the graduation saw 22 pupils.

Mr Abagali argued that, with globalization, there was the need for individuals to understand more than one international language to enable them to be competitive in the world.

He said this would also promote healthy cooperation amongst diverse people of the world especially, as Ghana shares boundaries with French speaking countries.

Mr Abagali also underscored the need for discipline amongst pupils to learn good values and morals to enable them to become responsible citizens.

He urged parents to be at the fore-front of instilling discipline in their children and not to leave it all to teachers.

He also appealed to private educational institutions to refrain from charging exorbitant school fees because it deters many from enrolling their children at private schools.

Mr Atchulo, Manager of the Dolores Basic School said the school would continue to make discipline a hallmark of its academic endeavours to groom pupils for the challenges of the future.

Prizes were presented to pupils who distinguished themselves in various subjects over the last academic year, whiles some of the teachers received award packages for their dedicated service to the school.
