Veep Impressed With Ongoing Crush Sanitation Exercise By Local Government Ministry


Visiting most of the sites starting from La Wireless, Agbogbloshie Market, Kokomlemle and Mallam Atta market, he commended the AMA and public spirited Ghanaian companies who helped in the operation in the metropolis by providing equipment.

He said compared to what he saw the last time including he was really impressed and hoped that they would continue and find ways to solve the problem.

He said the crush program was not an ultimatum to AMA but a program that was designed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Julius Debrah aimed at improving sanitation nationwide to help stop deteriorating sanitation in the country.

The Vice-President further called on the local government ministry to continue to with national public awareness campaign on how to keep our environment clean.

Led by The Mayor of Accra, Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur also inspected ongoing works on the Korle Lagoon that had been choked for ages and was being dredged with heavy equipment that had been deployed to the sites to cart the refuse so that the river would flow.

Before the exercise began on Monday, those areas were massively choked with waste, as a result of which there was an overpowering stench which made it difficult for people to breathe.

Some of the traders who spoke interacted with Vice president said they were happy with the exercise and promised to cooperate with the AMA to help keep the country clean.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Julius Debrah, said the ministry is on course and would continue with the program nationwide ,adding that they have already started a public education awareness program nationwide to educate people on good sanitation habits
