Step Down For Alan – Ohene Ntow Tells Nana

Nana Ohene-Ntow
NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO, standard bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general elections, has been asked to step down for one of the leading contenders of the party’s flagbearership slot, alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

The call was made by Mr. Kyerematen’s official spokesman and former General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Ohene-Ntow, on Okay FM’s programme, ‘Ade Akye Abia’ in Accra on Thursday.

Nana Ohene-Ntow was reacting to a publication he said had created the impression that Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign team had issued a statement to undermine the chances of Nana Akufo- Addo.

He said the publication had specifically stated that Nana Akufo-Addo would be unfit to contest the presidential election in 2016 and that it had been attributed to the Alan Campaign Team.

He expressed disappointment in the said publication, addeding that ‘Alan is not a bad person.’

‘His ideas about Ghana will go a long way to help the country if given the nod by NPP delegates to lead the party,’ the former General Secretary underscored.

He asked Nana Akufo-Addo to ‘honourably’ step down for Mr. Kyerematen since the latter had been ‘gentlemanly’ enough to do same for him (Akufo-Addo) and others in the past.

According to Nana Ohene-Ntow, the NPP family could attest to Mr. Kyerematen’s contribution to the party since 1992, saying some elements were ‘simply bent on destroying him’.

According to Nana Ohene-Ntow, some of the party activists had overlooked ‘the immeasurable efforts made by Mr. Kyerematen to put the party back on its feet when it nearly collapsed in 1992.’

He said his boss’s campaign had always been issue-based and denied that it was meant to run down Nana Akufo-Addo by playing the health card.

Nana Ohene-Ntow said that the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the party even commended Mr. Kyerematen for the way he campaigned on issues devoid of personality attacks.

‘Wherever Alan went during his campaign I was with him and I can say on authority that no leaflets were given out to damage Nana Akufo-Addo in our campaign. Some opponents of Alan want the delegates to forget the message of hope from him and dwell on lies about Alan which will bring division and confusion in the party,’ he asserted.

‘There have been all sorts of lies that Alan is not a founding member of NPP…I have been asking myself why almost everybody in the party is against Alan, despite the fact that they are aware of his contribution to the progress of the party. I want the party to understand that too many lies will not help us and that they should rubbish those lies about Alan Kyerematen,’ he added.

He revealed that in 1996, Mr. Kyerematen wanted to contest as NPP flagbearer but the leaders of the party pleaded with him to allow the senior ones to contest, which he obliged adding, ‘He waited and served the party till he decided to contest the primary again in 2007.’

Nana Ohene-Ntow maintained that Alan Kyerematen conceded defeat to avoid a run-off against Nana Akufo-Addo and also foster party unity and peace because ‘he realized the heat the primary had brought on the party at the University of Ghana Congress.’

‘He has done all these for the party and I think he deserves to be given the chance to stand as a flagbearer of the NPP,’ and made a passionate appeal to the party’s delegates to vote for Mr. Kyerematen during the forthcoming presidential primary of the party.

‘Nana Addo has contested the presidential election for two times and it was proven that only NPP members voted for him; therefore I am pleading with the leaders and Nana Addo himself that he has done well for the party but he should step down for Alan this time because Alan has done that for Nana Addo before…he should support Alan and let’s win the 2016 elections with the support of the floating voters,’ he pleaded.
