Takoradi, Aug. 13, GNA – Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said the EC would blacklist the registration officer that permitted the registration of 15 Togolese in the Ahanta West District.

This followed revelation that the Togolese did not provide any form of identification and had no guarantors before being registered.

He said before an applicant was registered he/she must provide an old voter’s identity card, driver’s licence, national identification card, passport and birth certificate to prove his/her nationality.

He said if the person could not provide any of the above particulars two guarantors must guarantee his/her registration.

Mr Opoku-Mensah was responding to media report that 15 Togolese workers of Diamond Cement Company allegedly registered in the limited voter registration at Bokoro Registration Centre in the Ahanta West District on Monday August 11, but nobody challenged their nationality.

Meanwhile, the EC officials had retrieved their voters’ identity cards and cancelled their registration.

The EC director said the limited voter registration was meant for Ghanaians who are 18 years and above and of sound mind as well as those who could not register in the last registration exercise in 2012.

The limited voter registration exercise started from August 4 and would end on Wednesday, August 13.
