Parliament ‘Fights’ Spio-Garbrah Over Titles

The Appointments Committee of Ghana’s Parliament on Wednesday battled Minister-designate for Trade, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, over titles and accolades when he appeared before the law-making Chamber.

The former Communications Minister insisted he wanted to be mentioned without the honorary doctorate accolade, as against the official communication presented to the House by the Presidency which bore the title.

The back-and-forth over the use of the doctorate title in reference to the former Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation CEO continued for a long while till the chairman of the Committee, Ebo Barton-Oduro, steered proceedings away from the title controversy.

Spio-Garbrah, until his nomination was the Chief Executive Officer of the Action Chapel in Ghana’s capital Accra and president of the Dominion University College.
