The Black Princesses of Ghana on Tuesday night failed to advance into the quarter final stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite securing a 2-1 victory over Finland in their last group game.
Ghana who had won and lost their previous two games against Canada and Korea DPR respectively had to come back from a goal down to win the game 2-1.
Finish forward Juliette Kempi opened the scoring 5 minutes into the second half after receiving a nice through ball from Ria Oling to slot it past Ghana goalkeeper Victoria Agyei.
The Princesses however drew level in the 71st minute following a well taken strike from winger Sherifatu Sumaila to keep Ghana’s hope alive.
Substitute Jennifer Cudjoe fetched the much needed winner in the 86th minute with a calm finish after receiving a pass from left-back Rebecca Asante to end the game 2-1 in favor of the princesses.
Despite the win over Finland, the Princesses failed to qualify to the next round of the competition as the other group game could not go in their favor when Canada beat Korea DPR 1-0 to qualify on goal difference.
