Takoradi, Aug 11, GNA – Takoradi Polytechnic has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BSY Hostels Ghana Limited for the construction of eight storey hostel facility to ease the acute student accommodation problem.

The project, estimated at a cost of six million dollars, would commence this year and is expected to provide one thousand housing units to the students.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Takoradi, Professor Reverend Daniel Agyepong Nyarko, Rector of the Polytechnic, said the project had come at an opportune time because 1,900 students have been accommodated in hostels by the school.

The project, which would be completed in 27 months, would provide decent accommodation for fresh and continuing students at an affordable rate.

The Director of BSY Hostels Ghana Limited, Mr Richmond Kyei-Fordjour said the facility would be equipped with modern technology.

He said Common Interest Communities, a US-based housing company, which would finance the project after its completion, operate it for 25 years, after which it would be transferred to the polytechnic.

The facility would contain single, double and four-in-one occupancy rooms for the convenience of the students.

The President of the Student Representative Council of the Polytechnic, Mr Richard Ziemah, told Ghana News Agency that the project would reduce the burden of fresh students, who had to struggle for accommodation upon admission.
