Wontumi Arrests Strange Voters

The NPP capo alleged that the arrested people were National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful whose intention was to register in Kumasi so as to help the NDC to increase its votes in the area – which is the NPP’s stronghold – in the 2016 elections.

He explained that the law permits citizens of the land to apprehend people who breach the law and hand them over to the law enforcement agents to start with their investigations as soon as possible ‘and I did exactly that.’

Affectionately called ‘Wontumi,’ the NPP strong man said the party had credible information that some people were being bused from the northern part of the country to Kumasi to register.

Wontumi, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, said the NPP put a spotlight on the people that were being bused to Kumasi ‘and we arrested them at some polling stations at Asawase, Krofrom, Oforikrom and Zongo.’

The NPP National Chairman, who described his action as ‘citizen arrest,’ disclosed that the arrested people, by their body language, looked tired and held bags which showed that they just arrived from a long journey.

Wontumi noted that ‘interestingly, none of the about 100 arrested people could speak the local language (Twi),’ adding that they immediately began confessing when they were being sent to the police station.

He said the strangers claimed that they were from the Upper East Region and that some NDC officials in the area promised them fat financial packages if they were able to travel to Kumasi to register.

Wontumi said most of the arrested people begged him to set them free, with a firm promise that they would return to their base in the Upper East Region; and would not dare visiting Kumasi for that illegal action again.

He said as a law abiding citizen, he marched the people to the Zongo Police Station where he officially lodged a complaint for the police to start their investigations into the matter.

Mr. Boasiako appealed passionately to the Zongo police to conduct full-scale investigations into the matter and prosecute anybody who would be found guilty of having a hand in the illegal move.

Wontumi sternly cautioned the NDC not to try to use diabolic means and machinations to fault the ongoing political exercise.

He stated emphatically that he and the NPP were more vigilant than ever and they would expose every action that the NDC would try to use to get unqualified people to get registered in the Ashanti Region.
