The son of former Nkoranza North Member of Parliament (MP), Eric Amoateng, says he is not ashamed of his father despite his 10-year incarceration in the United States of America (USA).
Eric Amoateng arrived in Ghana on Thursday after serving a 10-year jail term in the USA for narcotic offences.
Upon his arrival, he was sent to the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) for de-briefing; an exercise the NACOB boss described as routine.
The ex-law maker was later detained at the Nima Police Station for allegedly acquiring a passport fraudulently.
He was however granted bail by the Cocoa Affairs Court, Circuit Court six, presided over by Justice Ellen Vivian Amoah on Friday.
Ahead of his re-union with his family members and supporters, the son of the former Nkoranza North MP, Akwasi Amoateng said he was very proud of his father.
“For me as a son, I have to be very proud of my dad. I don’t feel ashamed walking about bearing the name Amoateng,” he said
He admitted that not everybody responds positively when he introduced as a son of his father’s.
“When you mention the name Amoateng, there are some people who are proud and there are some people who dislike it,” he said.
Akwasi Amoateng expressed his appreciation to persons who did not shun the company of his family during his father’s imprisonment saying, “there are some people who do not relate to him but still hold the name Amoateng.”
He added that “I walk as an ordinary young man and I wonder whether people will like to have anything to do with me just because I bear the name Amoateng.”
