2 Escape Death

The trailer, with registration number AS 5622-N, overturned in the process when mechanics had wanted to jerk it and attend to a fault.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer, which was initially parked at the Weija junction, developed the fault in the early hours of the day.

However, the two – Joseph Otoo, 53, owner of a boutique shop at the area and a lady who only gave her name as Rabi, escaped unhurt.

Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE, Otoo said he saw the truck at the other side of the road around 6:00 am when he came to open his shop.

He said hours later, the driver of the truck came to park the vehicle at the bus stop in front of his shop.

According to Mr. Otoo, he saw the mechanics having a tough time trying to jerk the trailer just when Rabi had met him in front of his shop for direction to a certain hospital.

He said while directing Rabi, he heard a noise from the jerking truck, compelling both of them to jump from the pavement to his shop to avoid being trapped by the tumbling container.

Visibly stunned Otoo indicated that seconds after they had jumped to safety, the container and the trailer landed on the ground, crashing the bus stop terminal, a pop corn machine, a shed on which he displayed his wares, among other things.

As at 10:00 am on Friday when the paper was leaving the scene, Otoo was yet to make a complaint to the Weija police.
