Come For Your Stone – Traders Tell Nana

The market women with ‘proverbial stones’
Traders at the Makola, Kantamanto and Okaishie markets in Accra have hailed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as ‘prophets’, as the warnings they proffered regarding the consequences of voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have all come to pass.

Carrying stones of all shapes and sizes on their heads, the market women, particularly, were heard singing and calling on Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia to, literally, ‘come for their stones’ since the era of John Mahama’s ‘bad governance’ has vindicated the pair.

‘Everything Nana Addo said about the deterioration of life under the NDC, during the 2012 electioneering campaign period, has been proven to be true. We regret voting for the NDC because they have made life so unbearable for us,’ Ama Serwaa, a trader said.

According to them, the hardships imposed on them by the incompetence of the John Mahama government has never been witnessed in this country as every sector of the country’s economy is in a downward spiral.

They complained of the rising cost of living, the widespread corruption which is eating away the very fabric of national life, no money as well as rising unemployment. All these, according to them, are presenting a bleak and hopeless future for generations yet to come.

Nana Akufo-Addo, on his part assured the thousands of market women that 2016 presented an opportunity to Ghanaians to vote the NPP back into office so as to continue outstanding work done by the J.A. Kufuor government from 2001 to 2008.

‘We will put Ghana back to work. We will stabilise the cedi; we have done it before. We will manage the economy competently; we have done it before. We will create the environment for the private sector to thrive; we have done it before. We will provide the leadership that will mobilise the positive energies of the great majority of Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to take the bold steps towards the structural transformation of our national economy, which is the way to lasting prosperity,’ Nana Addo noted.

He continued, ‘We will improve significantly the governance of our nation, we have done it before. I am strong in my conviction and confident that we can do it. I know we are capable. God did not put us on this rich land to be poor. It is bad leadership that makes us poor.’
