Deputy Education Minister Goes Wild Over Free Sanitary Pad Brouhaha

Deputy Education Minister Alex Kyeremeh has taken strong exceptions to ‘efforts by some unscrupulous Ghanaians to undermine the government’s efforts at providing quality education.’

The minister who was explaining government’s education agenda to the people of Techiman on Winners FM was particularly unhappy with the emphasis being placed on the provision of sanitary pads to female students. He explained that the $156 million facility that makes provision for the sanitary pads also makes provision for the construction of several High Schools as well as scholarships for students.

He wants Ghanaians to laud the programme instead of demonizing it.

Hon. Alex Kyeremeh who is also Member of Parliament for Techiman North constituency insists Ghanaians have allowed themselves to be deceived regarding details of the loan because ‘we don’t like to read and find things out for ourselves.’

He also took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party for opposing every good project from time immemorial citing excerpts from Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s book Dark Days in Ghana where ‘members of the old opposition’ were alleged to have opposed the independence of the country, the Volta Dam amongst several other projects.

‘This behaviour is synonymous with the NPP. Let them continue to talk and play mischief whiles we work hard to improve the lot of Ghanaians. That is how they lost the last election in the first place’, he told rawgist.com in a separate interview.

He went on to promise Ghanaians that government is on course with the construction of the 200 Senior High Schools promised and is sure to deliver.
