The Ghana Medical Association (GMA), on Tuesday asked its members to withdraw Out-Patient-Department (OPD) services in all hospitals throughout the country on Thursday, July 24, in support of the action as declared by organized labour.
The GMA is asking doctors to provide only emergency and in-patients services on the said date.
A release issued and jointly signed by the President Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei and the General Secretary Dr Frank Serebour, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, explained that GMA was part of organized labour, and was part of the deliberations that culminated in the declaration of a nationwide strike and simultaneous demonstrations by workers in both the formal and informal sectors.
The release noted that members of GMA were equally exposed to the current economic hardships, and urged its members to stay tuned for further directives as and when it became necessary.
Organized Labour at a press conference on Friday, July 18, declared a nationwide strike, indicating that it will hit the streets on Thursday, July 24 2014 over what it described as untold hardships in the country.
