The Okyenhene and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has lashed out at government for failing to transform the nation.

The Okyenhene made this known whilst briefing the media at a durbar of chiefs at Suhum on Monday, after inspecting the deplorable road network in the region.

‘Today, as you can see, the NHIS, NIA, STX housing project, the MMT in fact, everything has collapsed. This government has left them all behind, without doing anything about them, but rather doing different things,’ the Okyehene hinted.

The angry chief lamented that Ghana lacks infrastructure and developmental projects, because the leaders lack the vision to transform the nation.

He further expressed the need for an immediate and necessary action on the failing social and economic infrastructure in the Eastern Region, adding that traditional rulers are to play leading roles in national development.

‘We note with regret that at the end of our tour today, we have found our roads in highly unacceptable condition for a region that does not only contribute enormously to the national economy, but also holds great potential for agriculture, forestry and small scale industrial production,’ the Okyehene lamented.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs noted that the neglect of roads in general had contributed greatly to rural poverty. He added that, post harvest losses in the agricultural sector had reached an unprecedented level in the region.

Road Networks
The Okyenhene noted that the Nsawam-Apedwa road is a major example of the bad state of roads in the region.  The 39-kilometer stretch from Nsawam to Apedwa junction is an integral part of the Trans-African Highway Network.

The road network in Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, Akyem Abuakwa, Akyem Kotoku, New Juabeng, Kwahu, Afram Plains, Akwamu and Bosome and other areas are the clearest examples of the deplorable road network in the region.

The Okyenhene further tasked the government to release funds to the Minister of Roads and Transport to conduct an inspection tour of roads in the region to personally assess the condition of the roads and make strenuous efforts to remedy the situation.

The ceremony was graced by the Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Nana Osei Nyarko III, Boso-Gua Omanhene and Vice President of the House, Bafuor Tutu Nyantekyi, Krontihene of New Juabeng Traditional Area, Nene Sackitey II, Konor of Manya Krobo, Okotwaasuo Kantamanto Oworae Agyekum, Akyem Bosome Omanhene, Osahene Ofei Kwasi, Agyeman, Krontihene, Akuapem Traditional Area,  Nana Yaw Boadi III, acting President, Akwamu Traditional Council, Nana Somuah Mireku Nyanpong, Apagyahene of Kwahu Traditional Area Obrempong Kyere Saforo Gyamfi, Kotoku Traditional Area, and a delegation of the Minority Members of Parliament of the Eastern Regional Caucus.
