Alan Kyerematen yesterday downplayed the internal polemics, which has rocked the party recently, describing it as a transient development, which would pass away when a flagbearer is chosen for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said there was no cause for alarm and indicated that the recent exchanges among some party supporters were being fanned by the media.
The aspiring flagbearer of the NPP said these when he hosted a cross-section of media representatives at The African Regent Hotel in Accra last Wednesday.
He took his guests through the economic challenges facing Ghana and how with his vast experience he can alter things around.
The genesis of his nickname Alan Cash, he explained, is as a result of his record of enabling people to make money by running their own businesses.
The media soiree, as his campaign team dubbed the engagement with journalists, was an elaborately arranged activity.
He was confronted with tough questions spanning various aspects of his political life.
As to why he threatened to resign from the party, he explained that he took the decision to ensure the unity of the party, given the circumstances at the time.
He told his guests that he was prevailed upon to rescind his decision after his grievances were looked into.
‘I offered to resign to ensure the stability of the party. A powerful team looked into my grievances. I spoke for five minutes,’ he said, pointing out that it is an issue which keeps resonating.
He added that he felt humbled by the party’s request to rescind his decision of exiting the party.
Alan Cash tackled the presidential initiative on starch, one of the novelties he championed when his party was in government.
Starch, which serves the needs of industry in brewery and food production, is in high demand worldwide. Propaganda has been employed to delimit the importance of the project to rob it of the inroads the initiative made, he said.
He unfolded an intricate programme by which he claimed he would turn the economy around when he is chosen as flagbearer and eventually as president.
The flagbearer aspirant told his guests that people outside the NPP have said that should he win the primaries of his party and emerge as flagbearer, they would give him their votes.
When he was quizzed about the basis for his conclusion, he said ‘my standing on the political terrain is proven by a scientific sampling undertaken.’
The party, he went on, should be concerned about electing a flagbearer who would become president, adding, ‘I should be a president, who would succeed and make a change.’
‘My vision is to make Ghana a prosperous, modern, industrial, stable, well-educated and healthy nation with equal opportunities regardless of ethnicity, gender or religion.’
He said that ‘he would change the country between three and five years when elected as president regardless of the country’s challenges.
