Sefah-Twerefour and Wife flanked by Michael Attipoe and Pastor
Sefah-Tee Sculpture Works Limited, a leading Ghanaian arts and crafts company in Ghana, over the weekend opened its new gallery at a brief but colorful ceremony.
The event, which was held at the forecourt of the gallery located near Mount Olives Presby Church, Tantra Hills, Accra, brought together a number of dignitaries in the arts and crafts industry and students offering visual arts in some Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions.
The CEO of Sefa-Tee Sculpture Works Limited, Alex Sefah-Twerefour, said plans to establish a studio for arts and crafts were mooted two decades ago.
Alex Sefah-Twerefour stated that the studio would promote cultural tourism and serve as hub for training visual arts students.
The CEO, who is a former director of the Centre for National Culture, Greater Accra and has over the years built a track-record for local and international exhibitions, said his passion for the arts and crafts industry started during childhood.
He noted that his creations had been described by giants in the industry as unique.
Michael Attipoe, Director of Finance at the National Commission on Culture, who represented the Minister for Tourism, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, paid glowing tribute to the artist Sefah-Twerefour for his creations.
The minister said that the time has come for industry players to add value to the productions so as to attract international buyers.
She also urged parents and students not to denigrate the arts and crafts industry.
Michael Attipoe hinted that the Japanese government had approved a grant for Ghana to promote the local arts and crafts industry.
The Resident Minister of Mount Olives Presby Church, Joshua Bossman Ohene, reiterated the importance of arts and crafts to the development of the nation.
Some of the students at the function were optimistic about applying to do internships during their long vacations.
