Police Uncover Baby Factory In Rivers, Suspects Nabbed

Three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man suspected to be involved in a Baby factory operation have been paraded by the Rivers state police command.

Parading the suspects yesterday, July 8, the Divisional Police Officer of Igwuruta Police Station, Mr. Bello Muhammed, said they were arrested on July 5, 2014 at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area, after a tip off from well meaning Nigerians that someone was operating a baby factory in Umuehe in Igwuruta.

The names of the suspects were given as Odinchinma Nwala (25), Glory Anyanwu (22), Goodness Nwankwo (19), and Stanley Okechukwu (male, 36).

According to Punch report, Muhammed explained that after the tip off, the police sent a patrol team to confirm the information and it was discovered that the suspects had been involved in the business for a long time. They then traced and arrested Okechukwu, who took them to where the girls were being kept.

“The girls were brought from different local government areas, and further investigation revealed that after delivering, he will pay the girls N100,000 per baby girl and N150,000 for a baby boy before selling the babies,” the DPO said.Read more
