Israeli Ambassador To Ghana Escapes Terrorist Attacks In Israel

Calling to update me that she is safe and that she managed to deliver her children to the relative safety of a bomb shelter, Ambassador Sharon Bar-li was calm yet tense. This is not the first time that Israel falls under this type of cynical and vicious attacks. In fact, since the decision to disengage from the Gaza Strip in 2005 – a decision that saw Israel withdraw all of its presence, civilian and military, from the Gaza Strip entirely – the peaceful pauses were few and far between as thousands of rockets were constantly fired from within the Gaza Strip on the innocent civilians living in the Israeli cities in the area. But for the Ambassador, who for the last 3 years were enjoying the safety and clam that life in Accra offers, this experience was a swift reminder to the reality that so many Israelis live through daily.

The latest round of violence started when HAMAS, the terrorist organization that controls the Gaza Strip has signed a peace treaty with the Palestinian Authority (PA) – the political leadership of the Palestinians. Israel has cautioned that this treaty was dangerous, as HAMAS is widely agreed to be dangerous fanatic organization, similar in it’s ideology to other extremist Islamist organizations such as Boko Haram and al-Qaeda.

Prophetic in its warning, only a few weeks has passed since the treaty was signed, and three Israeli Teenagers were kidnapped by HAMAS terrorists only later to be discovered to have been murdered viciously, their bodies buried under ground.

Through the three weeks of HAMAS led escalation in the violence and the constant increase in rockets fired towards Israeli Cities, Israel has shown incredible restraint exploring as rockets explode every possible path towards peaceful resolution and de-escalation of the violence. As the rockets rate and targets increased, reaching the major city of Tel Aviv and the Holy City, the capital of Israel – Jerusalem, a red line has been breached and the situation could no longer be sustained.

No government can tolerate a situation in which millions of its citizens are forced to live under a barrage of missiles. The cries of the many mothers, just as our Ambassador did, in constant fear for the lives of their children is a clear demand for any government to act in order to ensure the safety of its people.

As White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest on situation in Israel:

“We strongly condemn the continuing rocket fire into Israel and the deliberate targeting of civilians by terrorist organizations in Gaza. No country can accept rocket fire aimed at civilians, and we support Israel’s right to defend itself against these vicious attacks.”

Israel has every right to defend itself and has the duty to protect its civilian population under attack – this is undeniable. But Israel, as it always has in the past, will continue to act with extreme responsibility and as the New York Times reported yesterday – ” Israel Warns Gaza Targets by Phone and Leaflet” , doing all that is possible to avoid unnecessary harm to innocent civilians.

HAMAS, on the other hand, do the complete opposite – They deliberately target Israeli civilians and cynically use Palestinian civilians as human shields. While Israel’s actions are measured and directed at the missile launchers and the terror infrastructure, there is clear evidence that shows that HAMAS is calling on Palestinian civilians to serve as human shields for its terrorist infrastructure – choosing locations such as private houses, schools and even hospitals for their rockets lunches – unabashedly inviting casualties from their own people to serve as material for propaganda and to deter Israeli response.

Israel’s main objective for this operation is to restore stability and quiet to the residents of Israel and when this objective is achieved, the operation will cease. Israel does not have any territorial claims over the Gaza Strip and has no intent to regain its presence in the area.

What is the objective of HAMAS? One can learn the answer to that question from reading the organizations official Charter, for example Article 7 – “The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: “The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.”

The HAMAS, like their ideological brothers in Boko Haram and al-Qaeda, twist and distort the holy teachings of the Quran to serve their thirst for Jewish blood. They do not look for peace and they do not look for the interests of their people – they refuse to acknowledge the right of Israel, a right that is thousands of years old and is clearly mentioned in the Bible as well by the entire world and its international organizations. They refuse to allow for an Israeli state that would live peacefully side by side with its neighbors and they openly state that they will stop only when all the Jews are dead.

We will not allow them to get their wish and we will fight to protect our home.

I am very confident that we have you standing with us, the good god loving people of Ghana, as we pass this yet another “trial by fire” and I derive confidence in your ever presence , constant support for the peace loving people of Israel.

I would like to conclude by asking you to join all of us in prayers for the swift resolution of this round of violence and may GOD protect all the innocents, on both sides, and keep the death toll and unnecessary destruction to a minimum.
