Israel’s Mashav Trains Head Teachers In Tamale For The Third Time


Ghana, Tamale, 3rd July 2014:Thirty-eight head teachers and kindergarten teachers selected from nine schools in Tamale in the Northern region have completed a two-week intensive training organized by MASHAV, Israel’s International Agency for Development Cooperation, under its Early Childhood Development Education Program in Tamale.

The Early Childhood Development Education program is a collaborative effort between MASHAV, the Ghana Education Service and threeMetropolitan Assemblies – in Accra, Kumasi and Tamaleunder which pre-school teacher’s human capacity is built through knowledge sharing and experience in areas where Israel has competitive advantage.

The objective of the training which was on the theme ‘learning through play’was to lead the selected teachers through creating stimulating and effective activities and tofoster critical thinking among children, through play. The trained teachersare also expected to share and transfer the knowledge gained through the training to their fellow teachers.

This third training in Tamale comes at the backdrop of the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between MASHAV and the Ghana Education Service in the field of Early Childhood Development. The signing ceremony took place during the visit of the Israel Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Avigdor Liberman to Ghana, accompanied by the Head of MASHAV, Mr. Daniel Carmon.

Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sharon Bar-li noted that the program focuses on change of methodology without having to introduce any costly measures and has been conducted successfully for the last four years in three Regions of Ghana, changing the attitude and capabilities of teachers, children and their parents, when it comes to learning at the early formative years.

The Ambassador reiterated Israel’s willingness to work further with the Ghana Ministry of Education on introducing the methodology into the Teachers Training Colleges and the faculties of Education so that the program can be adopted on the National level.
