The Ghana Free Zones Board [GFZB] has been awarded the 2014 ” International Star for Leadership in Quality” award in Paris, France.

Addressing a cross section of the media in Accra, Hajia Hanatu Abubakar, the GFZB, Investor Support Services Manager, attributed the award in recognition of her outfit’s efforts at making quality a core focus of continuous improvement of management to maintain leadership in its sector.

She said ” it is an award of excellence of recognition of our hard work in the area of export-oriented investment promotion over the years.

she stated that this is not the first time the GFZB is being recognized internationally as it was awarded the 2012 ” Best Website of a Free Zone or Export Processing Zone” by the World Free Zone Convention.

” We were awarded then for visual impact, depth and clarity of information as well as user friendliness and site guidance” she said.

The Board , she noted ”being the only free zones body in Ghana and with no any other competitive agency, we have not relented on our efforts but rather continued to serve our customers to the best of our ability”.

Ghana, she indicated has emerged as one of Africa’s most successful destinations in terms of attracting both local and foreign investment most of which are operating as licensed free zones companies within the Tema enclave as single factory enterprises.

Hajia Hanatu Abubakar added ” the whole of Ghana is accessible, making companies locate to any part of the country and still enjoy the free zones status”.

To this end she mentioned that The Ghana Free Zones Board is poised at creating an enabling environment not only for local and foreign investors to thrive but to also create jobs and generate incomes for the people.

Another unique advantage that makes Ghana an ideal business destination is her strategic location as a middle coastal belt country with her two sea ports serving her landlocked neighboring countries.

She debunk claims in a section of the public that, the free zones is a preserve of only foreign companies or investors adding that a little over 60% of licensed free zones companies are wholly owned by Ghanaians.

The GFZB since its inception in 1996, according to her has chalked some successes and amongst the achievements, she mentioned the registration of 253 companies, export values of US$ 23.92 billion, employment creation of 31,005 as well as the capital injection of US$2.52 billion into the economy.

The GFZB Investor Support Services Manager pointed out that not only does her outfit attract businesses to locate to Ghana through their relationship marketing efforts; they create, maintain and enhance strong value-laden relationships between these companies and other stakeholders.

Hajia Hanatu Abubakar , said that the Ghana Free Zones Board, under the chairmanship of current Ghana’s Minister for Trade and Industry , Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and with Mr. Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Executive Secretary, will keep distancing themselves from any failure or mediocrity and continue being customer-focused.

” It is only by delighting our customers to ensure satisfaction that the Free Zones programs will continue to grow in the long term and swim in the cycle of success” she added.
