There Were No Holiday Makers In Brazil—Kwesi Nyantakyi


The President of the Ghana Football Association has hit back at critics concerning the alleged large number of officials that represented Ghana in the ongoing football mundial in Brazil.

It was rumoured in a cross section of the media that there were 50 FA officials twice the number of players which attracted a number of criticism.

Defending the number of officials on the trip at a news conference in Accra, Kwesi Nyantakyi asserted that every official on the trip was working and was vital to the team’s dream of reaching the semi finals for the first time.

‘There were no holiday makers in Brazil, everybody had a vital role to play in prosecuting the agenda of the team at its third successive appearance at the world cup,’ he explained.

Reacting to the 3 million dollars that was airlifted to the stars camp to pay the players appearance fee, the president said that had been the practice of the association for sometime blaming it on their inability to control the players demand for physical cash after several assurance.

For his part, Coach of the senior national team, Coach James Akwasi Appiah said the team will forget about the disappointment and move on from there as they prepare for the CAN 2015 tournament to be hosted by Morocco.

According to him the team went to Brazil with few experienced players which also had effect on the team’s performance.

Coach James Akwasi Appiah declined to comment on the future of Midfielders Sulley Ali Muntari and Kelvin Prince Boateng when asked about the future of the players with the national team.

‘I don’t want to comment on them because they have been suspended for now ‘, he said.

It will be recalled that Midfielders Sulley Ali Muntari and Kelvin Prince Boateng were sacked from camp with few hours to play the Portuguese match which was crucial to Ghana’s qualification to the knockout stage.

The Black Stars had a disappointing performance at this year FIFA World Cup and was eliminated from the tournament at the group stages made up of countries like USA, Germany, and Portugal.

The team which was also rated as underdog in group G had the shock of the tournament when they failed to win any of their group match by losing 1-2 to the US , drawing 2-2 with Germany and finally losing 1-2 to Portugal.

It however had some good time when the tams 2-2 draw with Germany was rated one of the best matches at the ongoing tournament.
