More Trouble For Nyantakyi, Afriyie …As Groups Call For Their Arrest

Some Ghanaians, including supporters who were airlifted to cheer the senior soccer team, the Black Stars in on-going FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, have called on President John Dramani Mahama to arrest all officials of Ghana Football Association (GFA) who were captured in the match fixing footage for questioning.

According to the groups, the embattled GFA President, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, and Messrs Christopher Forsythe and Obed Nketia, who were captured in the video must be made to face the full rigours of the law since the scandal fetched each of them $30,000.

The groups also stressed the need for the president to, as a matter of urgency, purge the GFA board from the technical team to avert the high level of corrupt practices in the sector.

In an interview with Today, some supporters who have just returned from Brazil expressed worry over the increasing spate of corrupt practices among top managers at both the ministry of youth and sports (MoYS) and GFA.

They noted that the sports ministry and GFA are shrouded in deep seated corruption from flesh to bone since time immemorial.

They recalled that during the administration of the former Sports Minister, Mallam Issah, an amount of US$ 46,000 mysteriously disappeared in a plane en route to Sudan.

They stressed that under Asawase Member of Parliament (MP,) Alhaji Muntaka Muburak’s tenure, some tax payer’s monies were used to purchase pampers, khebab, baby oil among others to a tournament in Cote D’ Ivoire.

“Nothing has changed since same is being done by Messrs Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Joseph Yammin who have just been reshuffled.”

They described the two as the most “corrupt” youth and sports ministers Ghana has ever had.

According to them, the two young ministers have completely milked the coffers of the sector, adding that they need to be arrested to face the full rigours of the law to serve as deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, the latest to join the fray are managers of the travel and tour companies contracted by government to airlift football fans to Brazil; Kenpong Travel and Tour and African Origin Travels and Sports Tourism, who have together jumped on the bandwagon, calling on the recently demoted Afriyie Ankrah and the handlers of the national team to render a detailed account to the nation.

The two companies seem to have had enough of the falsehoods being peddled around by some government officials regarding the alleged maltreatment of the supporters who were airlifted to cheer up the Black Stars, before the elimination from the ongoing FIFA 2014 World Cup.
