Korle-Bu Senior Staff Chases Board Chairman, CEO out

Senior Staff Association of the nation’s premier teaching hospital, Korle-Bu, are calling for the head of the Acting CEO and the Board Chairman of the hospital, Reverend Okpoti Botchway and Edward Annan for allegedly running the premier hospital as a ‘bankrupt political organization that lacks direction and fellow-feeling.’

Speaking to the media, the President of Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association KOSSA, Charles Offei-Palm said despite a recent cosmetic intervention by the sector minister, agitations are rising within the hospital and it will be suicidal if President Mahama fails to act decisively and immediately.

The President of KOSSA noted that if after Monday 30th June, 2014 and nothing is heard from the Presidency, the Association will organize a series of demonstrations to register their displeasure against the continuous stay of the Ag CEO and the Board Chairman in office.

However, after the one week ultimatum given has finally elapsed, KOSSA will hit the streets of Accra again if their sentiments are not addressed as to their demands, said Charles Offei-Palm.

The intended action by the Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association, he said was informed by the fact that after they had presented a petition to the office of the Presidency (Flag Staff House) about the state of affairs in Korle-Bu hospital, the Acting CEO and the Board Chairman, (Reverend Okpoti Botchway and Edward Annan) have been moving from one media house to another peddling falsehood against them.

Therefore, KOSSA is calling for the immediate dissolution and reconstitution of the Board and appointment of a substantive CEO who will focus on critical clinical demands of the hospital.

The Association urged President Mahama through the appropriate agencies to conduct a forensic investigation into all the appointments made by Edward Annan led Board viz a viz Cynthia Boateng as Deputy Director of Administration/Special Assistant to the Acting CEO, the Internal Auditor, Deputy Director of Human Resources and the Director of Finance.

According the aggrieved workers, the CEO must also return the car he bought under the pretext of a duty post car against Ministry of Health transport policy.

He expressed regret that Edward Annan and his board members can no longer enjoy the loyalty and trust reposed in them.

KOSSA meanwhile has petitioned the President to terminate Godfred Ahiayo’s appointment and he must be forced to refund the GH67,000 and car.

Godfred Ahianyo, who is a non-executive Board Member however, was enjoyed emoluments as an executive Board member.

He explained that Godfred Ahianyo, who was appointed by the Executive Board to head and supervise the Restructuring Committee of the hospital was only entitled to an allowance of GH500.

The amount accrued when he was appointed to head the restructuring committee at Korle-Bu was 67,000.00.

By virtue of that Mr. Ahianyo was paid GH9000 as a Director and when the Single Spine Salary Structure came, he was put on GH9000 arrears amounting to GH67,000.00.

Meanwhile, other members of the restructuring committee were not paid the any arrears thus raising eye-brows.

He said the unceasing threats, harassment, intimidation and victimization of targeted staff, covertly or overtly by Mr. Edward Annan (Board Chairman) and his cohorts in the hospital should seize forthwith.

According to the President, KOSSA will no longer tolerate anymore of such tendencies from the current Korle-Bu Board and its chairman.

The President of the Association has also debunked claims by the Board Chairman that when the new auditor took office, one of the departments was deliberately set of ablaze when the auditor was asked to conduct an audit exercise.

The Senior Staff Association have also rebuff the claim by Reverend Okpoti Botchway and Edward Annan that some senior staff of the hospital have enrolled 1055 ghost names unto the payroll system for their selfish interests after three consecutive headcounts.

He alleged that Edward Annan pastime is the intimidation of staff anytime he visits the facility, an example is when he summoned and accused the longstanding deputy director of administration of being the man sponsoring the standoff between the Senior Staff Association and the Board.
