The Executive Director of Ghana Museums and Monument Board (GMMB), Dr. Zagba Narh has announced that the Board will celebrate the Scientific Heritage and Acculturation Week (SHAW) from September 22-27, 2014.
Dr. Zagba Narh Oyortey made this known at a press briefing held in Accra.
The executive director explained that SHAW would help promote the objectives of the Musuem of Science and Technology (MST).
He stated that staff of the Museums and Monuments Board would over the period sensitize members of the public on the benefits of the application of scientific concepts.
Dr. Zagba was hopeful such an intervention would lead to a paradigm shift in the country.
The executive director noted that the celebration of SHAW would strategically help the Board to achieve its goals.
The executive director further said that GMMB was established in 1965 by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president, to promote his development ideology.
He said that successive governments have not shown interest in continuing his dreams to use science and technology to develop the country.
Mr. Zagba Narh said that notwithstanding the challenges, the GMMB has begun a process of engaging stakeholders within the science and technology community, academia and industry.
The Director, Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI) of the Council For Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr. George Owusu Essegbey, called for participatory approach to science and technology.
He expressed happiness that a National Science policy had been put in place to help improve science and technology.
Dr. George Essegbey said with the application of science and technology, suspicion and believe in supernatural in relation to crop failure and delay in the onset of the rains will be better understood.
Agyiri Sackey further said that MST would provide the opportunity to generate interest in the application of science and technology.
