How it started

The soldiers allegedly stormed the community and arrested a vigilante leader Wilfred Mujakperuo and community chairman Godswill Eyaguobor to interrogate them in connection with an armed robbery attack launched the day before in the nearby community.

An eyewitness said, when the soldiers entered the community they located the chairman’s house and demanded him to disclose where the previous night attackers found wooden logs  to block the road before they had robbed the affected community. Reacting to the arrest, the local youth gathered in protest, when the soldiers started shooting sporadically.

The report says that Pastor Icroyin, married with kids, was fatally injured and died at the scene, while many other protesters were wounded.

Community officials expressed their disappointment over the incident saying that they had been fully cooperating with security forces just to received such an unfair treatment of its residents.
