Ghana needs new leader to revive ailing economy- Alan Kyerematen

Presidential hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen says the Mahama-led administration is bereft of ideas on how to revive Ghana’s ailing economy.

He said ‘in the midst of the present economic crisis we find ourselves, it does not make sense to increase tariffs on water and electricity; impose new VAT on financial services or even contemplate on increasing fuel prices even if it is being denied’.

In a statement to condemn recent tariff hikes and new Value Added Tax on financial services, Mr. Kyerematen said government is overburdening Ghanaians because it ‘lacks the creativity to raise revenue’.

He noted that, without doing anything to substantially increase production in agriculture as well as expand the country’s export base, any attempt to hike levies will be counter-productive and the ordinary Ghanaian will bear the brunt of government’s inaction.

The NPP man said given the current state of the economy, it is evident the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost touch on how to manage the economy.

He called on Ghanaians to stand up for their right and start asking critical questions on government’s handling of the economy.

Alan Kyerematen said the only way out of what he described as ‘economic shambles’ is to elect a decisive leader with new ideas to accelerate the growth of the economy. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
