World Cup 2014: Essien Refused To Warm Up For Not Being Fielded In Starting Line Up

Ghanaian international and Ac Milan midfielder Michael Essien refused to leave the dressing room to join his colleagues warm up ahead of the Ghana vs Portugal Group G game which ended 2-1 in favour of Portugal.

The former Chelsea star was conspicuously missing when the Black Stars team took to the field to warm up ahead of the last Group G game against Portugal.

Ghana Sports source close to the team revealed that the midfield dynamo got furious and refused to step onto the field when his name did not appear in the team’s starting lineup.

“These so-called senior players must be dealt with, how can Essien refuse to warm up because he was not fielded.” An official of the team told Ghanasportsonline.

The source further revealed that former Black Stars captain who had tried to restore calm in the team’s camp without success said some of his colleagues have forgotten one day they will also quit football.

The Black Stars team was plagued with crisis right from the first match against USA until some senior players were sent home ahead of their last game against Portugal.
