Mixed Feelings For Asamoah Gyan Despite Setting African Record

Asamoah Gyan was left to rue Ghana’s first round elimination at the World Cup despite coming to the fore as the highest-scoring African.

The Ghana captain scored his sixth World Cup goal in the Black Stars’ 2-1 defeat to Portugal in Brasilia on Thursday to become the highest-scoring African in the tournament’s history.

Gyan now surpasses the five scored by legend, Roger Milla of Cameroon.

“Yeah, I am pleased with it[record]. I have got six goals so far,” Gyan said after Ghana bowed out of the competition.

“Personally I am happy for this record but I am not happy right now because we’ve gone out.”

The first round exit was the first time in Ghana’s World Cup history.

“We are very disappointed. We have to go home and come back stronger.

“I have to thank everybody for their support, the whole of Ghana. They prayed for us and everything is done now,” Gyan said.

Gyan was marking his third appearance at the World Cup after his debut in 2006.
