Takoradi 26th June, 2014- Zoil Services Limited, an oil and gas waste management and spill response company has officially launched its ultra-modern Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Plant (ATDU) in Nyankrom in the Shama District of the Western Region on Wednesday 25thJune, 2014. Zoil, with its world-class waste treatment Plant, will help minimize or eliminate the negative impacts of industrial activities on society.

The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Paul Evans Aidoo and his deputy, Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia, Queen Mother of Shama and acting Paramount Queen Mother of the Shama Traditional Area, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II, District Chief Executive for Shama, Hon. Enoch Kojo Appiah, Board Chairman for Zoil Services Limited, Mr. John Peter Amewu and many representatives from the oil and gas companies in the region, chiefs and elders and media organiasations graced the occasion.

Zoil Plant, located in the oil region, close to the operations of many oil & gas companies, is capable of treating waste materials such as crude oil tanker bottoms and marine waste, drill cuttings, oily sludge, filter cakes, engine and hydraulic oil, galley grease and soil contaminated with certain categories of hydrocarbons, among others. It specializes in oil and hazardous waste treatment, oil spill recovery services, tank cleaning and general oil and gas waste management advisory services.

Dr. Kenneth Asamoah-Boateng, the Managing Director of Zoil Services Limited explained: ‘Zoil acquired a state-of-the-art Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Unit (ADTU), capable of treating up to 8 tonnes of drilling waste per hour. It is the first and the largest of its kind in Ghana. The plant will also be capable of processing waste plastics into valuable fuel product through pyrolysis. This will help to reduce the amount of plastics contamination in our environment.’

He continued: ‘The Petroleum Commission, Environmental Protection Agency and other regulatory bodies have inspected our facilities and conducted thorough audits of our equipment and staff. They granted us official permits to commence business after we satisfied the required operational standards. As a result of our certifications, proximity, deployment of state-of-the-art technology and qualified staff, many oil companies in the country are eager to start doing business with us.’

The Queen mother of Nyankrom and acting Paramount Queen of the Shama Traditional Area, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II, in her speech, thanked Zoil services Limited for choosing Nyankrom as its base. She assured the company of the support and cooperation of the community and its people. She also thanked the company for its contributions to the community and for employing its youths.

With the launch of Ghana’s largest oil and gas company and as the only company to have deployed the Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Technology, Zoil has officially opened its doors for business in the oil and gas sector in Ghana and beyond.
