Sekyere Rural Bank Supports Less Endowed School


Sekyere Rural Bank Limited has donated One Hundred bags of Cement to one of the less endowed Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region, St. Michael’s Senior High School at Ahenkro in the Afigya Kwabre District. The gift is hoped to add up to the effort by the school to improve infrastructure, which is one of the major challenges faced by the School.

At a ceremony for the presentation at the school with Headmasters, tutors, students and representatives from Sekyere Rural Bank in attendance, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Noble K. Obese Antwi said the gesture was part of their contributions to promoting quality education in Ghana.

He added that several health and educational institutions within the bank’s operations area have benefitted from the bank’s assistance.That few months ago,Sekyere Rural Bank presented other hundred bags of cement to the SDA College of Education at Agona in the Sekyere South District and also donated bed sheets to the Abena Kwabena Hospital in Asamang and other health facilities in the Ashanti Region.

Noble Obese Antwi reiterated that supporting education in the country should not be seen as a responsibilty of the government alone but all individuals and cooperate bodies.And that the Sekyere Rural Bank has consided education a sector of priority in their support scheme. He pledged the bank’s willingness to continue with their contributions to the St. Michael’s Senior High School.He urged Ghanaians to trade with their bank so that when much proceed is acrued, they can proffer more help to institutions that are in need.

On his part, the Headmaster of St. Michael’s Senior High School,Reverend Father Clement Augustine Owusu said the school which was established in November, 2011 with ninety nine students, as Catholic community institution under the Ghana Education Service had been managed by the Catholic Church and the Ahenkro community until it was absorbed by government two years ago.He lamented that the school faces numerous challenges which would need the hands of the individuals and companies since support from the government is not forthcoming.

Rev. Father Clement A. Owusu told pressmen that the school is in dire need of structures like administration block, library, Science and computer laboratories and Staff Common room, which are core elements in the effective running of a school.”Most of the teachers have been employed by the school and are paid by this financially weak institution.The School is far from the Ahenkro community but has no vehicle to take students to and from the campus.We are not hooked unto the national electricity grid and have resorted to the use of generator which cost us close to Thousand Ghana Cedis every week” the headmaster bewailed.

The St. Michael Senior High School Headmaster and Parish priest of the Ahenkro Parish of the Roman Catholic Church commended Sekyere Rural Bank Limited for the bags of cement gifted the school and appealed to the bank to build a domitory for the school on a loan basis which could be paid in installment .He called on other cooperate bodies and individuals to come to the aid of the school.

The St. Michael’s Senior High School has curently converted two classroms into dormitories for students who come from far.Most of the students living on campus have been sent there through the computerised school selection and placement system.
