Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), a trade association of insurance and reinsurance companies, has donated office equipment valued at GH₵10,000 to the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The items, including one HP laser machine, a canon photocopier machine, two Dell computers, two UPS, external hard drive, and others, are to help the MTTD in their data collection on the field.

Presenting the items on behalf of the association, Kwame -Gazo Agbenyadzie, Managing Director of Ghana Insurers Association, said the association promised supporting the police often in their field of work.

He said the association is currently working in partnership with the police to ensure the Third Party Act promulgated by government would be enforced.

‘Some of the vehicle owners even print fake insurance certificates and without the police it would be difficult to detect such unscrupulous persons and bring them to book.’

He noted that government alone cannot provide all facilities that the police require and that there is the need for corporate organisations to also support to make the police effective.

Receiving the items, ACP Awuni Angwubutoge, the Director General in-charge of the MTTD recounted how his department openly requested for the aforementioned items, two years ago.

He said the office equipment would help the police manage their data with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC).

‘Police believes that data management is very essential since it helps us control and reassess the road,’ he averred.

He called on the GIA to again provide the police with speed guns and alcohol sensors to check drunk driving and over speeding.

Also present at the presentation ceremony included Mr Ivan A. Averayireh, Managing Director of Ghana Life Insurance Company Limited, Mr Atsu Menyawovor, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Insurers Association and DSP Sasu Mensah, staff officer of police MTTD.
