“Boko Haram To Attack 50 Towns In Borno”

A delegate of the ongoing National Conference yesterday said according to the information he possessed Boko Haram insurgents plan to attack more than 50 towns/villages of Borno State.

Ibrahim Bunu did not disclose the sources of the information, however he mentioned that he got it in a telephone talk, Punch reports. The official urged authorities to enhance security in Borno and around Nigeria in general.

Meanwhile the former minister of information Edwin Clark, who also takes part in the conference, called for additional date to enable thorough discussion of Boko Haram problem at the executive session. In response, the conference management said the matter would be discussed June 26 in a closed-door meeting.

Another member Saidu Dansadau lamented that data provided by Bunu require immediate discussion, without being put off till the next day.

It would be recalled that despite the emergency rule, which was months ago declared and then prolonged in Borno, the state has witnessed one of the most cruel attacks within the latest months. One of them is the abduction of over 250 school girls by Boko Haram insurgents from Chibok school.

While the Nigerian military and security agencies actively fight terrorism in the state, the bloody attacks continue, with violence feared to be spreading on other areas.

Only this week several states have been affected by deadly attacks launched by gunmen in southern Kaduna, the country capital Abuja, the troubled Borno and Adamawa states.
